Xraycer: The Summer Sled

Xraycer is the ultimate mountain wheeler for adults and the lightest, most intuitive and portable summer sled ever created. The Xraycer is built as a toy for adults based on the idea of driving downhill without restrictions, bringing an extra element of fun to a beautiful mountain hike.

The design has been optimized to match most user requirements based on the ergonomic knowledge collected from winter sleds combined with established skateboard and snowboard technology. Inventing a safe and joyful ride was our main intention.

Building all kinds of ridable prototypes over the past 2 years brought us to the final design. On-road testing helped us design a high performing that can withstand up to 220 pounds. We started out prototyping with a paper chassis and reinforced the parts with Fiberglass to strengthen the chassis. Wooden prototype structures led us to investigating building the Xraycer from carbon fiber often used in aircrafts, but finally we decided to build the chassis in rotational molded HDPE; the material is light, affordable and durable.

Intuitive steering through weight shifting makes the Xraycer a unique and easy ride. Safe brakes are activated by the center brake handlebar bringing you to a smooth stop. While most sleds only work in snowy winters and end up sleeping in basements most times of the year, we decided it's time for a change. Existing forest roads, closed roads or any other hill can be used for this new type of fun sport—the sky is the limit.
